Argentina midfielder Fernando Gago has targeted Copa America glory ahead of their warm-up match against Albania.
The South American tournament gets under way on July 1 with Argentina and Brazil the obvious favourites.
Real Madrid star Gago believes, though, that anything other than tournament success will be viewed as a failure, especially as they are hosting the event.
He said: "I don't think second place in the Copa America is acceptable.
"Because of our history and the talent we have in the national team I think we should be top. We must try to win, always.''
The Albicelestes complete their preparations tomorrow against an under-strength Albania at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires and Gago is hoping the hosts' pass-and-move approach will pay dividends.
"The idea is to try to get the ball by being aggressive. By rotating it constantly, we'll try to get the space to hurt with the great attacking players we have,'' said Gago.
Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso will miss the match as he has picked up a minor injury which will not prevent him from playing in the Copa.
River Plate goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo is another absentee as he has been released by coach Sergio Batista with River facing a relegation/promotion play-off against Second Division side Belgrano on Wednesday.
Albania coach Josip Kuze has had a number of selection issues ahead of a tricky-looking encounter.
Lorik Cana, Altin Lala, Ervin Skela, Erjon Bogdani, Debatik Curri, Ansi Agolli and Admir Tela will all miss out for a variety of reasons and Kuze was not impressed.
"It is an unusual situation when players don't accept an invitation to play. Some of them have even turned their cell phones off,'' he said.
"Anyway, we'll try to do our best with new names and ones who accepted the call-up.''
